Our Team

Jaaron is a 4th year Mathematics major, just going with the flow and trying to figure out what he wants to do for a career. He's been in love with astronomy as a hobby since he was introduced to the concept of black holes in third grade, and has been an executive with the club for the past 2 years. In his free time, Jaaron enjoys playing SSBM, soccer, and volleyball, along with studying computer science and jazz piano. Feel free to hit him up with any music suggestions or astronomy questions!

Chloe is a fourth-year student studying honours physics and astronomy. When she’s not stressing over schoolwork she loves running, curling up with a book, or watching a good movie (bonus points if it’s space related)!

Dhawal is a 4th year student in the Faculty of Science majoring in Computer Science and Statistics. He loves building stuff and will geek out about Dune with you. His favorite objects are M42 and Saturn.

Liz’s favourite moon phase is the Waning Crescent. Her favourite colour is pink. She enjoys reading, singing, museum-going, art galleries, and the beach (especially at night). (rozy lmk if you want me to change my bio lol otherwise i like my current one)

Leah is a 2nd year student in the Faculty of Science, majoring in the Combined Honors Physics and Astronomy specialization. She's currently doing research in quasar variability. Outside of school, she spends her time playing board games and rock climbing.

Ira is a 2nd year student majoring in Astronomy and Economics. Her love for stargazing stems from greek mythology and science fiction. Hobbies include being chronically online, swimming and reading.

While stressing out with school work on a daily basis, Sharon enjoys taking out her refractor at night to take pretty pictures as a coping mechanism.

Aryan is a 4th year student in the Faculty of Science, majoring in Mathematics. Aryan's love for astronomy began when he learned that the Sun will eventually consume the Earth; a fact that both terrified and fascinated him enough to want to understand how it would happen.

Alex is a 2nd year undergraduate in physics and astronomy. Alex's love for space came from late nights on open seas, far from light polluted cities, where the creamy milkyway shines brighter than streetlights.

Sukhman Kambo is a first year student in the Faculty of Science. She’s loved astronomy and learning about the universe ever since she was a little kid, listening to her grandma's stories while looking at the stars. Gazing at the stars, the moon, and the colors in the sky fills her with hope and lights a path forward. Sukhman enjoys creating art, writing poems and anything creative.

Vlad Grecu is a third-year student in the Faculty of Science studying physics and astronomy. His passion for astronomy stemmed in kindergarten from questions about why the night is dark, and from there stretched outwards to discover increasingly vast, occasionally puzzling concepts. When not learning more about astronomy (or studying), his hobbies include playing soccer, tennis, and video games, reading sci-fi and fantasy books, and following Formula 1.

Saloni is a third-year Physics and Astronomy student with her head in the stars and her heart in the mysteries of the cosmos. Her fascination with the universe started the night she witnessed her first Geminid meteor shower, igniting a love for gravitational waves, radio astronomy, and cosmology. When she is not gazing up at the night sky, you will find her deep into mystery movies or dreaming up ways to blend her two passions: art and science. An enthusiast of languages and music, she is always exploring new ways to harmonise creativity and cosmic curiosity.

Ayan is in her 4th year studying Physics in the Faculty of Science. She joined the club in 2022 and has been locked in ever since. Ayan's interest in astronomy started back in high school where she had an amazing teacher who taught the only astronomy course offered in her entire school district.

Devin is a staff member at UBC. His love for astronomy was sparked by seeing the Milky Way for the first time while camping as a kid on a clear, dark summer's night in the Kootenays. That moment of immense perspective has stuck with him since then. He enjoys camping, playing Ultimate, staring into space, and being sat upon by his cats.

Wendy is a third-year Biomedical Engineering student with a minor in Astronomy. When she’s not busy with school, she enjoys stargazing, hanging out with friends, and spending time in the lab.

Sumaiya is a 2nd year Astronomy major with an intended minor in Data Science. Sumaiya's known she would go into astronomy since she was 8 years old, her space fun facts book a trusted companion during her international travels.

Vijayesh is a 3rd year student in the Faculty of Applied Science majoring in Electrical Engineering. He loves all things fiction and spends copious amounts of time wondering about life beyond Earth.

Mai is a 1st year student studying in the Science One program. Her curiosity about life beyond Earth was sparked by stargazing with her dad as a child.

Arin is a 2nd year student in the Faculty of Science majoring in Physics. Arin’s love for astrophysics started with a documentary homework for a science class in the 5th grade.

Christa is a 5th year student in the Faculty of Science majoring in Biology and Oceanography, with a Health and Society minor. Learning about black holes was the stepping stone to falling in love with space. When they’re not in lab, you’ll find them with their nose buried in a book!

Rozy is a 4th year Political Science student who’s love for space came from watching Interstellar in Grade 11 physics. (Don’t ask how many times she’s watched it since). She loves to sit and look up at the stars while listening to music when she can’t sleep. Sleep is for the weak (jk).

Kaylee is a 4th year Physics student minoring in Biology. She’s always been intrigued by space, but taking ATSR 102 in her first year really sent her interest into orbit (hehe). When procrastinating on schoolwork, she enjoys listening to true crime podcasts, doing karaoke, following F1, and hunting for the best london fog in Vancouver.

Wrik is a 5th year majoring in Computer Science. He has been fascinated by space since age six, with their love of astronomy deepened by witnessing a full veil of stars in rural New Zealand. Having traveled to 24 countries and lived in three, he has consistently looked to the skies, connecting with the cosmos from around the globe.

Brett is a 3rd year Physics & Astronomy student with a lifelong unhealthy astronomy obsession. He can often be found vandalizing chalkboards around the Hennings building with doodles of birds, and hanging out with his crow friends.

Andrea is a fourth year physics and astronomy student at UBC. She is passionate about science communication, and believes that everyone can learn about astronomy as long as they are curious! Her interest lies in cosmology, and when she has time, music, philosophy and sailing. Andrea is also an avid rock collector who used to tumble stones at home.

Mariam is a 4th year student studying Psychology and Journalism. Mariam's love for astronomy stemmed from space operas, Grimes' music, and catching shooting stars in childhood. Her hobbies include collecting vintage trinkets, sketching, and stargazing (p.s. she recommends the 'Sky Guide' app for a fun skywatching!)

Jannat is a 3rd year student in the Faculty of Science, majoring in Astronomy. Her curiosity about exoplanets inspires her dreams of exploring the universe. She enjoys stargazing, journaling, playing video games, and vlogging.
