Gurveen is a fourth year Arts student who doesn’t know much, except that she loves to look up at the sky and wonder how she ended up on this planet. She has hundreds of questions about everything in the Universe and as much as they terrify her, she would still love to know all the answers. Find her at club events to talk to her and maybe have some fun conversations about our beautiful Universe.
Vanshika is a fourth year student pursuing a combined honours in physics and astronomy. As a child she was obsessed with how and why things work which soon turned into a love for physics and a passion for astronomy. Whilst a lot of her time goes into working hard to one day (fingers crossed) get out into space herself, in the little free time you can catch her hiking, food hopping, rewatching the same five tv shows or at the gym.
She looks forward to helping propagate the wonders of astronomy to others!
Kamryn is a 4th year combined major in science student studying physics, computer science, and biology. Her interest in astronomy stemmed from watching NOVA documentaries with her Dad as a kid, and she continues to appreciate space by going to spontaneous observation nights with her pals (“spontaneous” because the weather app is not to be trusted). When it's cloudy out, Kamryn enjoys gardening, playing video games, and drumming.
Observational Event Director
Srishti is a First year Engineering student with a great interest in space and astronomy. She enjoys singing, cooking and painting. You might also find her looking at the sky like 90% of the time (hopefully not bumping into more people again). Loves listening to music and living in her own little world or randomly ending up at the beach at 4 A.M.
Christa is a second-year science student doing a combined major in biology and oceanography. Their interest in astronomy started young with their discovery of black holes and with the help of a YouTube channel called Kurzgesagt. In their free time, they love to sleep, watch anime and re-read their favourite manhwa, Solo Leveling. They’re excited to learn more about astronomy and help others learn too.
Lucas is a 5th-year astronomy major at UBC from Toronto. His research primarily focuses on Galaxy structure and evolution where he hopes to answer some questions like "how does a galaxy's dark matter halo affect its evolution? '' or "how do supermassive blackholes form?". Outside of his work, Lucas has spent his whole life with his head in the stars hoping to one day be able to explore them himself. However, until that time comes, you can find him down here, on earth, either stargazing, taking astrophotos, and probably cramming something school-related in there too.
Baldeep is a 4th year Physics and Astronomy student. His passion for astronomy comes from the multitude of mind bending questions that can be asked when he gazes upon the Universe. Outside of his love for the cosmos, he loves to spend time outdoors, playing/watching sports, and listening to podcasts.
Devin is a staff member and occasional student at UBC. His love for astronomy was sparked by seeing the Milky Way for the first time while camping as a kid on a clear, dark summer's night in the Kootenays. That moment of immense perspective has stuck with him since then. He enjoys camping, playing Ultimate, and chilling in hammocks.
Alisa in a 4th year physics student with a minor in astronomy. Having spent a large portion of her childhood in the countryside on Vancouver Island, where the skies are teeming with stars, she's always loved gazing up at night. With a background in the performing arts and film, she hopes to bring science and space to the big screen so that more people will be inspired to learn about the vast universe we live in.
Aakash is a first year student at UBC who is planning on doing the combined physics and astronomy program. He is a an astrophysics enthusiast with a keen interest in the subject, developed from his first (of countless) viewings of the movie Interstellar. He hopes to eventually find himself working at an observatory or in academia. In his free time one can find him working on drawing sketches or reading novels and manga.
VP Observational Apprentice
Elsa is a 2nd year visual art major and plans to minor in computer science. She starts learning more about astronomy after taking physics courses in high school. She likes every stars and has so many questions about multiverse. In her free time, she likes reading, drawing animation, playing tennis and rhythm games.
Jaaron is a 4th year Mathematics major, just going with the flow and trying to figure out what he wants to do for a career. He's been in love with astronomy as a hobby since he was introduced to the concept of black holes in third grade, and has been an executive with the club for the past 2 years. In his free time, Jaaron enjoys playing SSBM, soccer, and volleyball, along with studying computer science and jazz piano. Feel free to hit him up with any music suggestions or astronomy questions!
Vlad Grecu is a first-year student in the Faculty of Science seeking to pursue physics and astronomy. His passion for astronomy stemmed in kindergarten from questions about why the night is dark, and from there stretched outwards to discover increasingly more vast, occasionally puzzling concepts. When not learning more about astronomy (or studying), his hobbies include playing soccer (goalie), reading sci-fi or fantasy books, or trying his hand at table tennis.
Justin is a UBC alumni (BSc 2016) and staff. He was an exec in the UBC Astronomy Club from 2011-2016 and co-president of the club in 2013, and enjoyed running observation nights for the UBC community to see the stars and planets through a telescope, often for the first time. He spends most of his free time climbing and running in the mountains.
Annie is a 2nd year mathematics major. She is interested in astronomy knowledge and pictures. Joining in astronomy club brings her a new vision of universe through telescopes. She hopes to take amazing pictures of creative events held by club for commemorate and promote club.
Erica is a third year Speech Science major, and an FNEL minor. As a child, stargazing on her roof was her favourite pastime. Her brother's aspiration to become an astronaut furthered her fascination with space. She is particularly interested in the thought of a planet similar to Earth somewhere out there in the Universe. On her free time, you can find Erica paddling in the ocean, at the gym, or playing videos games.
