Observation Projects
The Observation Department handles events related to amateur astronomy. We are dedicated to giving everyone the chance to witness our universe in all its glory and work closely with the other subteams to coordinate such observation events for club members, general UBC students, and the wider community. With these events, we hope to guide those who attend through the world of observational astronomy by showing how to use telescopes, process images and data, and generally how to navigate the night sky as an observer, all with the best equipment we can get our hands on. Through these efforts, the Observations Department aims to foster community and members get their foot in the door of astronomy.

OBSERVATION EVENTS
We run on-campus flash observations featuring different solar-system objects, celestial objects, galaxies, nebulae, and many more! Hosted outside of the Koerner library or on the HEBB Rooftop, these are generally open to the general public, with some events set aside for members only.

CLASS COLLABORATIONS
Good news for UBC science students! Our team organises special observation events with classes to bring in some hands-on wonder to regular lectures. Some highlights of these are the Science Onederer event with the Science One class, and the viewings with the ASTR200 class.

WORKSHOPS
Interested in learning useful skills in observational astronomy? Our team is happy to say that we are here to help with our hands-on workshops. With a focus on astrophotography and useful coding, we will guide you through the process and teach you how to apply the skills. These workshops are open to all, regardless of experience, so feel free to come by and learn!

COMMUNITY EVENTS
As well as spreading astronomy to UBC students, the Astronomy Club is also dedicated to engaging with the greater community. The Observation team holds community-based observation events, working with schools and youth programs, such as the Beaver Scouts, to share astronomy observation with all!
